My First Published Poem: Spirit

This was supposedly published by the Live Poets Society of NJ in September of 2001 under “Of Faith and Inspiration” for their 3rd Anual High School Poetry Contest. (I did complete their process to have it published.) It was under my maiden name Teresa Smith.

Golden shrines and beautiful buildings,
Full of candles and wondrous paintings.
Tapestries and extensive writings abound,
But not one deity to be found.
Many religions with much the same,
Continue to insist only theirs should reign.
With many a battle in the endless war,
With confusion not peace I was torn.
Finally I saw what to do,
To ignore them, away I flew.
I found that spirit of mine,
It did not live in a shrine.
It did not live in buildings so grand,
But in the air, and in the sand.
I'm still not quite at peace,
But I've found my path at least.

~Treasa Cailleach aka Teresa Smith

I find it interesting something I wrote in highschool still applies today.

I had another poem published in college, in a similar contest fashion. That was called La Stigmata, but I have yet to find it in any of my records.

May you find your work applicable long term. May you find ways to appreciate yourself. May you know that your self matters. Above all may you know that the divine loves and supports you in all that you do.

Om Shanti
