Owls

I hear you

I see you too

Solitary creatures

Of the night

These nights

Not so solitary

Two, three

No five, maybe even six

Who cooks for you?

Barred owls

And one

Unmistakable

Low long

Who, who, who

Who indeed

The Great Horned

Harbinger of change

I always know

When you sing me to sleep

My life is on a path

Toward something

Scary, new, different

Usually good

I hope you’re right

My mind wants to tell me otherwise

I love your calls

Even more special

Those moments of grace

When you make certain

I see

Up close and personal

If I could just touch

Silky soft

Feathers

So beautiful

Alas

Protected by razors

Talons of might

Look but don’t touch

I know

Always did wonder

If you ever did let me touch

Would it melt us both

Just a fanciful dream

Like so many

For now give thanks

For your presence

Your soft song to sleep by

Beautiful

Owls
